After a relaxing day on Monday, judging for the British Lops began on Tuesday. Unfortunately, both Derek Harrison (Penllwyn herd) and Giles Eustice (Bezurrell herd) were unable to make the show on this occasion.
Judged by Mr Kevin Matthews, first in were the January boars, 1st went to the Collings Family with Liskeard General 21st, 2nd went to Liskeard Ben 20th and 3rd went to Liskeard Prince 35th.
Next up was the sow class; won by the Collings family with Knighton Queen, fondly known as Cilla! The Collings family continued with their winning form to take the January Gilt class with Liskeard Lulu 29th, 2nd was John Flay with Liskeard Sunshine 537, 3rd went to the Collings family with Liskeard Sunshine 535th and 4th went to Liskeard Sunshine 536th.
Male Champion was won by Liskeard General 21st with Liskeard Ben 20th taking Reserve.
Female Champion was won by the sow Cilla and Reserve won by Liskeard Lulu 29th.
Cilla went on to take Breed Champion with Liskeard General 21st taking Reserve Breed.
The Pairs Class was won by the Collings family with a pair of January’s.
Wednesday was interbreed day judged by Mr Andrew Warriner, starting with the Interbreed Male Champion Class; Liskeard General 21st proudly took the Reserve Male Champion behind a Welsh boar. Next was the interbreed Female Champion where Cilla shone and beat all the other Female Champions and took the overall Female Champion with a Landrace sow taking Reserve.
On to The Phil Fowlie Pairs Championship, the Collings family went in with their pair of January’s consisting of Liskeard General 21st and Liskeard Lulu 29th and again came out on top taking the Champion Pairs title.
Last class of the day was the Supreme Championship, where Cilla went in to compete against all the other Breed champions which included all the females she had beaten in previously and a Tamworth boar. Unfortunately Mr Warriner decided to put the Welsh sow above Cilla and the Landrace sow, with Cilla taking Reserve Supreme Champion.
All in all, a fantastic display for the British Lops in Wales and a fantastic show for the Collings.
