Royal Welsh Show 2018
23 July 2018 - 26 July 2018
Judging started on Tuesday with Judge Andy Greedy. The first class of the January boars came out and Catherine Nicholas won the class with Catrin Prince 6 (who also took Male Champion).
The sows were up next and again this was a brilliant display from all the entries. The Collings family were the champions of this class with Knighton Queen (affectionately known as ‘Cilla’). Cilla also went on to win Female Champion and Breed Champion later in the show.
The gilts born on or between 1st July 2017 and 31st December 2017 presented a lovely selection of pigs for the judge, the Collings Family came out on top with Liskeard Lulu 39. Liskeard Lulu 39 then went on to take Reserve Female and Reserve Breed Champion later in the show.
Catherine Nicholas had another great result, taking the win in the January Gilt class with Catrin Thatcher 11. The pairs class again saw Catherine succeed with a pair of January’s.
The interbreed day followed and the judge for the day was Ann Uglow from Devon.
Catherine’s January’s again did her proud as they stuck together and both shone in front of the crowd whilst in the ring. They were up against some strong competition but deservingly proceeded to take the Reserve Champion Pair title.
The last class of the day was the Supreme Championship. Cilla managed to take last year's Reserve Champion title, but would she succeed again? She was up against a strong selection of breed champions but was looking good and managed to take the Supreme Champion of the show top spot!
Well done to both the Collings family and the Nicholas’s for such a stunning display of British Lops bringing home the results.
